January 18 (6 pm) Henry Guzmán at Cornelia Street Cafe's Writers Room. New York's venerable urban writers' colony presents a monthly reading of new material. The presentation includes the latest work from playwright and author Henry Guzmán who will be reading from a monologue from both old and new work, as well as an excerpt from his new novel, Pilgrim: A Fool's Manifesto. January 21 (7 pm) In the Cypher at Nuyorican Poets Cafe. "In the Cypher", led by five poets, an MC and DJ that keep the audience jamming to poetic riffs, uses slam poetry and candid audience interactions to question whether truth and identity are more than skin deep.
